Prosecutors ‘ready to charge suspect’ over death at Michael Barrymore’s home 20 years ago

A suspect in the Michael Barrymore pool death case is reportedly set to be charged 20 years on.

Police are reportedly ready to send a file to prosecutors after a man, 50, was held on suspicion of murder.

Stuart Lubbock, 31, died at Michael Barrymore’s home in 2001 – with his body found in the pool of the star’s £2million Essex home.

Officers say they have carried out a “substantial and detailed investigation” and will be submitting a file to the CPS “for their consideration and decision”, reports the Sun.

Prosecutors are expected to begin looking at the file as early as this week — before deciding on what charges, if any, are brought.

The next police step will be to charge the suspect if a decision is made to prosecute.

The file is said to include evidence relating to the suspect’s alleged involvement in the reported offences that left Stuart dead.

Stuart’s brother Kevin, 53, said of the latest developments: “This shows why my dad has never given up fighting for the justice we all deserve.”

Stuart’s father Terry revealed in February he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Reacting to the news of latest developments in the case, Terry said the pain of losing his son “has nearly killed me”.

Stuart, 31, suffered internal injuries suggesting he had been sexually assaulted at the party on March 31, 2001, in Roydon, Essex, which was attended by Barrymore and eight guests.
