The Gambia government on Thursday appointed Abdoulie Sanyang as the new Inspector General of Police, police said.

Police said in a statement issued to the media: “The Police High Command wishes to inform the public that DIG Abdoulie Sanyang has been appointed as Inspector General of Police.

“The entire management and staff of the GPF congratulate him on his appointment and pray for him a successful stay in office.”

His appointment comes weeks after the death of former IGP Mamour Jobe, who died at the Medicare Clinic on 13th March 2021, following a brief illness. Sanyang was one-time Jobe’s deputy.

Sanyang was appointed as deputy Inspector General of Police in the wake of late Jobe’s appointment as Police boss. Sanyany was an ex- Administration Officer at the GPF before he was elevated to the position of deputy in June 2018.
